ABOUT ME

Big wheels and ballet were integral pieces in my childhood. I was the little sister peeking under the studio door as I watched and dreamed of the moment I too could express feeling through music and dance. Picture this… a purple big wheel barreling down the sidewalk, crunching all the rocks against its plastic wheels. Seated behind the handlebars of this purple machine is a wild and woolly little girl with tousled hair and a leopard print Tarzan swim suit. I can tell you about the rocks crunching and the wind in my hair because it was all captured in a photograph.
Each experience that life brings us opens our hearts to new understandings. Grace and Grit are still elements of my expression and creativity today.

My husband, Derek, and I are raising our 3 kids in the same neighborhood we both grew up in. Colorado is the perfect setting for connecting with nature and this is when our family is happiest.
We are constantly captivated by the unorchestrated happenings of the Berns Family Colorado Circus.

A simple neighborhood walk turns into a three hour adventure visiting every creek along the way. As the mother I never know if I am the pack mule, carrying treasures of sticks and rocks, or the queen wearing her freshly made dandelion crown. Days later I am reminded of our adventure as I hear rocks tumbling in the dryer. Just as grit and grace has followed me through my life, I know that these adventures and moments that I create with my kids will grow with them. I am able to remember the purple monster that I was, and have always been, through a photograph. In the same way, my kids will be able to remember the little rascal adventurers that they are now through the pictures I take of them.

Photography feeds my soul; it is all inspired by my love and passions. I know how adventure is created and how to live in a moment. Photography isn’t about the perfect snapshot with the perfect pose and perfect clothes. It is about doing what you do best…being with your loved ones. Nothing can look more perfect than love.
